Sunday July 13, 2014 We Can't Drive 65

I have been working on a project over in Tampa for the last few months so I have had the pleasure of driving over the Howard Franklin several times a week during morning and evening rush hour.

While the drive can be tedious and frustrating at times what I find most interesting is the posted speed limit of 65 is rarely enforced, especially during rush hour.

If for some silly reason you want to actually obey the law and drive 65 you get to see most of the traffic whiz by, get a lot of frowns and single digit solutes from people in BMWs along with often flashing lights from 18 wheelers.

Hard as it may be to believe, there are still some who like to follow the rules, the only problem is if you drive 65 on the Howard Franklin you take your life in your hands.

My suggestion would be either get FHP out there on the bridge approaches and enforce the speed limit, or more practically raise the speed limit on the Howard Franklin to 70 so those wishing to follow the law have a chance to stay up with some of the traffic.

The old argument "they will all just drive faster" may be true, but currently the most dangerous drivers on the car strangled spanner are the drivers trying to follow the law.
