Why Voting for A Presidential Candidate Based on The Abortion Issue Is Such a Terrible Idea

FLORIDA
Opinion by: E. Eugene Webb PhD

As the 2024 presidential election races toward a conclusion The Harris/Waltz campaign continues to press the abortion issue as a reason to vote for her and her VP selection.

Former president Trump's position on this issue continues to be the Supreme Court’s decision to return abortion regulation to the States is what everybody wanted.

The Harris campaign's position is we need to return to the Roe V Wade era and expand it.

The abortion issue conjures up all sorts of emotional reactions.

A big part of this problem is the impact of abortions on American society and culture is difficult to quantify.

Unlike lives lost in battle while protecting our liberties, which are celebrated in places like the Arlington National cemetery, there is no singular place in the United States where one can walk into a field of tombstones or crosses that represent the most vulnerable whose lives have been lost.

The fetus does not have the ability to hire its own lawyer to protect its rights to live. When an abortion is performed there is rarely a memorial service, a remembrance grave or urn for that matter. The fetus is unilaterally denied the right to these symbolisms. They are regularly discarded with little or no respect for the life lost.

In virtually every case, the proponents of these so-called women's rights deal with the issue of protecting the mother. There is little said about the sanctity of the life that is lost when an abortion is performed.

And while everybody from political activists to political pundits scream and holler about Women's health, what they really want is the virtually unfettered right to take a human life they do not want to deal with.

I wish there were a place where Americans could go to a beautiful green field, and a rolling hill lined with row after row after row of small tombstones that represent those lost in this Country in the name of women's reproductive rights. It would change all our perspectives on this issue.

I am not sure why anybody would vote for a Presidential candidate who wants to re-nationalize abortion rights. There are so many other issues facing this nation that deserve our unswaying attention.

What I can tell you is this, if this Country elects Kamala Harris as President and she follows through with her abortion promise, there will be more American lives lost in the womb than there will be in all the wars, on all of the battlefields Kamala Harris could get us into during her term as President.
